Last summer, we launched the search for the new faculty position that our supporters’ generosity and faith in our work made possible: The Rev. Dr. Lee Barker Professorship of Leadership Studies. It is with great delight that we announce the selection of Rev. Kathryn House, Ph.D. as our Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies and Practical Theology and Chair of the Rev. Dr. Lee Barker Professorship of Leadership Studies.
Dr. House is an exceptional theological educator who strongly focuses on empowering students to engage critically with diverse traditions and texts. Her teaching methodology equips students to deeply understand their contexts and communities, preparing them to lead with creativity and courage. Her extensive experience and accomplishments are a testament to her expertise and dedication.
Dr. House is a respected religious professional with extensive experience as a teacher, scholar, and activist. She has served in various academic positions, including Instructor and Teaching Fellow at Boston University’s School of Theology and as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (LPTS) in Louisville, KY. Her most recent role was as Project Director at Myrtle Collaboration, part of the Innovation Hub of the Called to Lives of Meaning and Purpose Initiative at LPTS. Dr. House’s dedication to providing a transformative educational experience is evident in the high praise she has received from both her students and peers.
Earlier in her career, Dr. House served as Instructional Coordinator for Distance Learning Initiatives and Project Coordinator for the Creative Callings Project at the Boston University School of Theology. She co-designed the Interreligious Leadership Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and worked closely with Dr. Walter Fluker on his Ethical Leadership project. She was the Youth Mentor at St. Anne’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and then the Minister for Christian Formation at the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
Dr. House holds a B.A. in Religion from Duke University, and an M.Div. and a Ph.D. in Theological Studies from the Boston University School of Theology.
