Certification

On May 6, 2020, Meadville Lombard Theological School signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. A copy of the text of this agreement can be found on the Department of Education’s website.

MLTS intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Allocation and Institution Award Amounts

Meadville Lombard Theological School has received a total allocation of $26,188 from the Department of Education. MLTS will use at least $13,094 for emergency financial aid grants to students. Allocations for Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act can be found on the Department of Education’s website.

Funds Distributed

On May 6, 2020, Meadville Lombard signed the Certification and Agreement. Within 30 days of this agreement, this section of this page will be updated to include the total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section After the first update, this information will be updated at least every 45 days until either the funds have been exhausted or the Department of Education advises otherwise.

  • As of July 14, 2020, the total amount of funds distributed is $13,094. The total amount of funds allocated have been exhausted. This is the final report for the funds distributed under Section 18004(a)(1).

Student Eligibility

MLTS estimates that approximately 80 students at the institution are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Method Used to Determine Student Eligibility and Grant Amount

Any student who is eligible for Title IV funding (Federal Student Aid) at Meadville Lombard can apply for these funds. Following the Department of Education’s guidance, students must demonstrate their request is for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At Meadville Lombard, this applies to students who experienced unexpected or added expenses related to Meadville Lombard’s decision to move from an in-person intensive model to an online-only intensive model due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Applications are reviewed by a committee of no less than three staff members. The amount for which any given student is eligible is subject to the student-requested amount, the number of other students applying for these funds at the time, and the amount of funds available.
