Roberta Nelson In 2001, the Rev. Roberta Nelson retired from active ministry after 42 years as a religious educator. She has served three Unitarian Universalist congregations in Needham, Massachusetts, Oakton, Virginia, and the Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in Bethesda, Maryland. She was ordained in 1980. Bobbie has been of service to the UUA through many committees including The Ministerial Fellowship Committee, the Panel on Theological Education, the Sexuality Education Task Force, and the MRP Envisioning Committee. She is a member of the UUMA, which she has served as vice-president, and LREDA, which she has served as president. She has also served the Religious Educators Association as a board member. Before becoming a Trustee of Meadville Lombard, Bobbie was involved with the school as an adjunct faculty member, Minister in Residence, advisor in the Modified Residency Program, and the Dean of the Winter Institute. She has also taught at the Pacific School of Religion as an adjunct professor. In 1996, in recognition of her service to the UU movement, she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by Meadville Lombard. Bobbie is the mother of three adult daughters. Her husband, Christopher Nelson, is a retired environmental engineer at the US Environmental Protection Agency. Together, they have trained teachers for the new sexuality education program, Our Whole Lives, and have coauthored three curricula on UU parenting. |
