Contributions to Liberal Religion
Meadville Lombard has contributed much over the years to the cause of liberal religion:
- The Center for the Advanced Study of Religion and Science and its publication, Zygon, were begun at Meadville Lombard by one of our professors, Ralph Wendell Burhoe. For these efforts he was awarded the field of religion's most distinguished award, the Templeton Prize.
- James Luther Adams reached the zenith of his career as the prime ethicist/theologian for our movement while he was a faculty member at Meadville Lombard.
- Collegium: An Association for Liberal Religious Studies was founded at Meadville Lombard in 1975 and continues to meet to share research and promote scholarship.
- The Fahs Center for Religious Education and Meadville Lombard's modified residency programs have become the primary place of study for Unitarian Universalist religious educators.
The Wiggin Library continues to be one of the world's major resources of materials on liberal religion, and the Meadville Lombard faculty continue to be important researchers and scholars in the discipline. |
