As is our policy, Meadville Lombard Alumni/ae may register for the class for free or at a reduced fee. A description of the course follows:
Fulfilling the Promise of Pastoral Care
This fifteen hour course may be audited by ordained ministers or taken for one-half academic by ministerial students. The focus of the class will be the "institutionalization of pastoral care." As such, it will address several dimensions of pastoral care within Unitarian Universalist congregations with specific attention given to three aspects of pastoral care as the work of our faith communities: the theological roots of pastoral care, the ecclesial context of pastoral care, and the work of translating these understandings into institutional practices and programs. The course will be an opportunity for an intentional reflection with peers about the faith and communal commitments that inform our practice of care. The course will rely heavily on discussion, case study and short reflections. Those wanting academic credit will complete a project in consultation with the instructor(s) based on in class materials.
