Faculty Appointments Announced
Pangerl promoted to Academic Dean
At the June Board of Trustees meeting, Susann Pangerl was promoted from Associate Dean to Dean of Academic Programs. Pangerl joined the Meadville Lombard faculty in 2000 and is the director of the Doctor of Ministry Program as well as an Associate Professor of Pastoral Care.
Hogue to Join Meadville Lombard as Lecturer
As of September 1, 2005, Michael Hogue will be appointed Lecturer in Liberal Theology at Meadville Lombard. Hogue, who will receive his PhD in Theology from the University of Chicago in December 2005, will teach two courses in the 2005-06 school year, as well as offer two workshops on research methods, work with student advisees and perform faculty/school committee work. While he will not begin teaching until the winter quarter, he will begin with Meadville in September.
Lee Barker, President of Meadville Lombard, says "Mike has a good understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of theology and will bring us a way to bridge theology with literature, history and ethics." Barker adds that Hogue is "very conversant with liberal theology, and has already begun to study Unitarian Universalism at a higher level."
Hogue's appointment comes after another candidate for the position of Professor of Theology withdrew her name from consideration.
Thandeka named Senior Research Professor
The school was saddened in the fall of 2004 when Rev. Thandeka announced she was leaving her position as Professor of Theology at Meadville Lombard to pursue an opportunity to work as a visiting lecturer for Harvard Divinity School beginning in the spring of 2006.
Recently, Lee Barker announced that, as of September 1, Thandeka will be named Senior Research Professor at Meadville Lombard, a title she will hold until at least September 2007. "In August 2007, she will offer one of her superb theology courses at Ferry Beach Camp and Conference Center," Barker stated, urging students to "make plans to attend now."
