Vespers Service
Every Wednesday during the academic year, at 5:15 students, faculty,
and staff cross the street to worship together in Hull Chapel of the
First Unitarian Church. Each vespers service is followed by a
reception with refreshments that we call "conviviality." There is also
a communal meal about once each month.
Services are lead by the faculty (in the fall) and by the worship and
preaching classes (in the winter and spring). In addition, a few slots
each term are reserved for the school's chaplain, the
minister-in-residence, special guests, and other students.
In addition to vespers, there are
other moments of worship at Meadville Lombard. Any member of the
community can organize additional worship services with the assistance
and support of the school's chaplain. The school has a strong tradition
of marking and recognizing transitional moments in our lives. From
ritually welcoming new students at the fall retreat, to the last
worship services of the year which celebrate graduation and leaving for
internship or chaplaincy, we celebrate our important moments in
communal worship. Also, through field placements and other arrangements
students can be found all over the Chicago area preaching on any given
Sunday. |
